I have a VISION of Muskegon County as a place known for being child friendly, and family friendly.  I see a community where children of all economic levels feel safe and cared for, can access and enjoy our County’s stunning natural resources, and have dreams for their future right here in Muskegon County.  When our children’s quality of life is good, every resident, every visitor, and every business will benefit.

I am running for the County Commission to work to make that vision happen.

MY AREAS OF FOCUS

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

Muskegon County's Public Transportation system - including the airport, the bus system and the Go2 van service,NEED TO BE AN ECONOMIC GROWTH PARTNER
  • A growing, dynamic, visitor friendly community, needs to be able to dependably “Catch a bus” : to get to work on time, to get home from work, to get groceries, go shopping or go to class.
  • We are a community filled with places to visit: beaches, parks, museums, ships, libraries.  All of us should be able to catch a bus to visit those places without the hassle and cost of parking.
  • Young people, workers without a car, the disabled and the elderly, really, any of us at one time or another, need a more extensive, available,  Go2 van service and fixed route system to fully participate in community and take care of the everyday requirements of living.
  • Buses need to transition to electric power over time.
  • OUR AIRPORT: MUSKEGON BUSINESSES AND ECONOMY NEED SAFE RELIABLE AIRLINE SERVICES AND IMPROVEMENTS. Imagine an active airport!

PARKS

Our parks set us apart and we should prioritize them.

  • We have a beautiful new Dune Harbor Park that needs some natural development to be a place where all ages and abilities can enjoy its beauty - bird lovers, kayakers, dog walkers and hikers.
  • Other county parks (there are EIGHT of them—see Muskegoncountyparks.org) need some development, upgrading and maintenance as well.
  • The county needs to support the new Parks Committee and find resources to make our parks spectacular.
MENTAL HEALTH AND PUBLIC HEALTH
  • Jobs go unfilled because so many potential employees can’t pass a drug test.
  • We need creative solutions to help clients and their families overcome and cope with addictions and conditions.
  • Preventing suicides is a critical need.
  • Supportive Family planning services need to be more available and accessible
HOUSING
  • Muskegon County needs over 9,000 new housing units, 33%affordable and the rest at market rate.
  • Economic growth and population growth depend on available and affordable housing.
  • The county needs to dedicate resources to focus on new and renovated housing to reach this goal.
  • We need to collaborate with the community organizations, the cities and townships to solve housing in Muskegon
